The European Association of Endoscopic Surgery has fostered the development and maturation of minimally invasive techniques during the past 25 years. Minimally invasive surgery, the largest revolution in surgery since endotracheal intubation in the early 1900's, has made a difference in the lives of millions of patients worldwide and continues to expand its scope. Development of novel technologies further reducing the burden of surgery provides patients and clinicians with more options by the day. Frontier breaking basic and clinical research open new avenues for cure and generate evidence for cost-effective care pathways. The EAES will keep clinicians and patients up to date in this rapidly evolving world enabling them to make the best choices.
'A new way of seeing' is the theme of the EAES 2016 congress in Amsterdam, June 15 - 18. The latest insights and forecasts of new technologies varying from 3D, 4K, image guided procedures, robotics to nanotechnology will be shared by experts around the globe. Focused sessions on bariatric surgery, colorectal surgery, abdominal wall surgery and solid organ surgery will gather pioneers in the respective fields. Working together as health care professionals of various medical disciplines is the key to offering our patients the best possible outcomes. For the first time, the EAES is offering in Amsterdam a full day multidisciplinary session on pelvic pathology with a panel of general surgeons, gynaecologists and urologists.
Learning from the experiences of colleagues is essential to the continuous improvement of the quality of care. The EAES has bundled its educational activities in the EAES Academy. Learning class room sessions to master specific MIS-procedures preceding the annual EAES congress, EAES courses, EAES fellowships and a digital learning environment are the components of the EAES Academy.
The EAES Amsterdam 2016 will promote building relationships with fellow clinicians, researchers and engineers by connecting the attendees of the congress through social media well before the start of the congress and by break out sessions in the exhibit hall. Mobility and connectivity characterize the social program which offers a view of Amsterdam from the water, famous Dutch DJs and more.
I look forward to welcoming you to Amsterdam in June 2016!
